About Me

My name is Jai Aggarwal, and I’m a third-year student at the University of Toronto double-majoring in Cognitive Science and Computer Science. I started this website to track my development as a machine learning engineer and data scientist, in the hopes that I’d be able to look back on my progress one day and appreciate the extent to which I’ll have hopefully grown.

What Brought Me Here?

Good question! The driving force that has always determined my life’s path has been my desire to understand the human mind. In particular, the two aspects of cognition that have always fascinated me are semantic processing and decision making. This led to my initial studies in cognitive psychology and neuroscience.

At the recommendation of my mentor at the time, I decided to take a computer science course at the end of my first-year. Long story short, I realized that my love of coding could mesh well with my passion for understanding human cognition, and I switched into my current choice of majors: Cognitive Science and Computer Science.

Going Forwards

With respect to my academic and career goals, my current interests lie in pursuing a Master’s in Natural Language Processing, with a focus on applications in either healthcare or education.

I have an undying love of comic books and their related media, and except for their live-action cinematic universes, DC trumps Marvel without a doubt. A passion that I don’t get to explore as much as I’d like is scuba diving. I’ve logged 7 dives so far, but my goal is to hit the 40 necessary to become a Divemaster by my 30th birthday. I’m also extremely into card games, and recently taught myself Cribbage and Gin Rummy. My favourite game is Egyptian Ratslap, but Hearts is a close second.

Lastly, I’m an avid traveller, which stems from both my curiosity to explore the world and my love of languages. I’m a native English speaker, conversationally fluent in Spanish, and currently learning Hindi. As for travelling, check out the map below to see where I’ve been!
